Since March 1972, the MCC Thrift Shops have been committed to the well-being of their communities. Opened in 2003 in Edmonton, our not-for-profit thrift store is no different. Drop by our shop today! MCC Thrift Shop in Edmonton is appreciated for its good selection of affordable items and helpful volunteers. Some customers have had unpleasant experiences with unclear communication regarding store hours and inconsiderate behavior from staff. The store policy of not allowing customers to check items before purchasing and the five-dollar minimum for debit card transactions are points of contention for some. Overall, most customers praise the store for its great selection and reasonable prices, as well as the kindness and friendliness of the staff.

Edmonton became a Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society (AGS) in March 1974. Membership with AGS and Edmonton Branch allows access to our library holdings which include reference sources, periodicals, books, microfiche, microfilm and CD's. Members are invited to participate in Special Interest Groups who meet to share knowledge, resources and to help solve 'genealogical road blocks' relating to a specific country. Branch general meetings are open to members and non-members. Programs presented are of general interest to genealogists, from beginners to advanced. The Branch offers many opportunities for volunteer participation: creating indexes from genealogical source material, assisting in the library, cemetery recording, fund raising, and/or serving on a committee. Membership Information There is eleven Branches throughout Alberta. Edmonton Branch has about 550 members. With more than 5, 000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada, we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada. This helps support programs and research on behalf of the 11 million Canadians living with diabetes and pre-diabetes. But, we're more than just clothing donation collectors. We are an organization of dedicated professionals working with Canadians from coast to coast fighting to End Diabetes through waste diversion. Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million lbs. of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. The InKind Exchange is a unique community-based initiative created by the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. The InKind Exchange offers a convenient, cost effective way for charities to acquire office furniture, technology, personal care products, and toys. IKE Membership is FREE to all Alberta charities. The InKind Exchange (IKE) bridges the gap between the charitable sector and the business world by offering a central gathering and distribution point for donated products. The items are than offered for sale from our warehouse-store to member charities at far below market value. This allows resource focus on community work and not operational overhead. Customers express great experiences with United Way InKind Exchange and its staff.
