Since 1885, New Directions has been evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of the Winnipeg community. We have redefined ourselves and our services to work better with children, youth, adults and families as they chart their own course within the community. Our services are divided into three categories: Counselling, Assessment, Support and Prevention Programs; Training and Education Programs; and Residential and Support Programs. We strive to offer everyone the same opportunities to achieve the life they’ve dreamed of - a life full of promise, potential, respect and self-worth. We believe in a person-centred approach. At New Directions, we provide a wide range of services that encompass a multitude of areas that can affect people’s lives. Some people may use one service. Others may use several. Regardless of how many services someone uses, we’re here to provide support as people take steps to improve their lives—and through them, the lives of others in the community. Our Participants We provide supports to children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. Individuals may have an intellectual disability and/or physical disability and/or use American Sign Language to communicate. The range of supports we provide include day services to 24/7 staff residential settings to independent living where staff provide assistance only in identified targeted areas. We encourage every individual to be as independent as possible. We also respect that our participants can and do make decisions to the best of their ability and advocate that others in the community respect these choices and opinions.

Junior Achievement (JA) is the world’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business. With over 120 charters world wide, JA brings a global view of business to local communities. Since 1963 Junior Achievement of Manitoba (JAMB) has partnered with educators, donors and volunteers to bring a real world experience into the classroom. Our programs give students in grades 3-12 the confidence and skills they need to become the next generation of business and community leaders. In 1963 Junior Achievement of Manitoba was introduced to Winnipeg, Manitoba by four businessmen entrepreneurs J. Shore, D. A Pollard, N. Alexander and F. P. Heffelfinger. In 1979, the province granted a franchise to Junior Achievement of Manitoba Inc. Junior Achievement of Manitoba offers five business education programs, delivered at no cost to elementary, middle and high school students (grades 3 - 12). More than 150 schools throughout Manitoba participate in JA every year. Delivered by local volunteers, JA programs enable young people to develop essential life skills through exposure to interactive activities and innovative business solutions. RURAL MANITOBA In partnership with Government of Manitoba. The Department of Children and Youth Opportunities allows us to reach 3000 students in various Manitoba rural communities. Manitoba Department of Children and Youth Opportunities Initiatives also provides funding to have a locally placed Program Manager in Minnedosa, MB. NORTHERN MANITOBA A partnership with Manitoba Hydro, established since 2003, has allowed Junior Achievement of Manitoba the opportunity to offer all business programs to northern and remote students. Regardless of a student's location in Manitoba, they all have the opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement programs. Manitoba Hydro provides funding to have a locally placed Program Manager in Thompson. Programs in the north enable us to reach over 2000 students each year.
