In 1969 Dave Sergius, a refrigeration journeyman of 5 years decided he would try being in business for himself rather than working for somebody else. One day that same year an opportunity arose to purchase a company which was originally established in 1948 from an individual retiring from the industry. Dave purchased the company and took over the Nanaimo Street location in Vancouver, the 2 service vehicles, and the company’s small inventory of parts. His wife Sharon ran the office, and his brother-in-law, Ray Dean started out as his first employee new to the trade. When Dave first purchased the company, they primarily serviced residential and light commercial refrigeration equipment. Through his dedication to challenging work and knowledge of the business, TransCold grew into servicing and installation of all types of commercial / industrial refrigeration, and air-conditioning systems. Because of rapid business growth, Dave invited his brother, Lyle Sergius into a partnership into the company. Lyle’s experience as a journeyman heavy duty diesel mechanic soon became an asset. As Lyle gained experience in the refrigeration trade, his knowledge of mechanics was applied to fabrication of custom built refrigeration equipment and compressor rebuilding. They quickly became recognized as one of B.C.’s first authorized compressor rebuilders. Since the early days of the company, TransCold has expanded services to include custom manufacturing, and General Contracting and Project Management. Today we employ many government certified refrigeration technicians along with full time supporting trades including Welders, Electricians, Gas fitters, Engineers and a Sales Team.
