Massey Hall opened in 1894 as a gift to the city of Toronto from the Massey family. Roy Thomson Hall, which opened in 1982, is the home of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, premier venue for the gala screenings of the Toronto International Film Festival and the venue of choice for corporate events throughout the year. It is named in memory of Roy Thomson, Lord Thomson of Fleet following a naming gift to the hall by the Thomson family.
