To these ends the Institute stresses the highest standards of scholarship and objectivity in undertaking and supporting multi-disciplinary research, documentation, lectures, seminars, colloquia, and publications in three broad subject areas: Genocide, Diaspora, and Armenia . The Zoryan Institute for Contemporary Research and Documentation was established in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1982, followed by The Zoryan Institute of Canada, Inc., which was incorporated in Toronto in 1984, as a non-profit research institute. They combine to form an international academic and scholarly center devoted to the documentation, study, and dissemination of material related to Human rights and genocide studies, diaspora studies & homeland, in particular, Armenia. The Institute makes its collections and analyses available, and provides research assistance to scholars, writers, journalists, film-makers, government agencies, and other organizations. Functioning as a resource for facts, ideas and images, the Institute promotes the application of scholarly research on relevant issues to the activities of individuals and organizations, for whom such shared information can be a catalyst. Surex Community Services was created in 1980 as a pilot project to repatriate individuals who had long resided in Huronia Regional Centre (Orillia, ON). This was the first attempt in Ontario at integrating institutionalized people with severe disabilities into community based services. This pilot project marked a significant change and direction for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. The success of this project led the way to a provincial policy and strategy to significantly downsize provincially operated institutions and eventually close all institutions. The last institution was closed on March 31, 2009. Surex played a vital role in confirming that people with disabilities could live and work in the community. Surex was incorporated in 1983 as a not for profit, charitable organization and is governed by a volunteer, community Board of Directors. Surex operates several homes and a multi-service community support programs in the eastern part of Toronto for adults who have a developmental disability. These programs are funded by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services and donations from the public.

The Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Association of Ontario was founded in 1990 when a group of concerned citizens realized that there was no support for those afflicted with M.E./ CFS. Our Mandate To ensure that people living with M.E./CFS, wherever they live in Ontario, have the information, support and referrals they need to obtain the best possible care, and to ensure that all those affected are educated about new guidelines to protect their health. To encourage a strong provincial network of services for M.E./CFS, including a provincial help line, support groups and other services. To provide education, support and assistance to partners, family members, teachers, co-workers and friends of people living with M.E./CFS.

The Oasis Clothing Bank is one of the more visible community support initiatives started by Andonis Artemakis back in 2000 supporting the work and programs of the Oasis Addiction Recovery Society. “I felt there was little recognition for the many barriers that are faced by individuals struggling with addiction. Addiction recovery support has fallen short in its ability to promote personal potential and provide hope to the vulnerable individuals in our society.” Despite his key role in the clothing banks inception and heightening of its profile, he will say “There are no awards, presentations or trophies for what we do. Everyone is part of something bigger than themselves. Our goal is to help people rebuild their relationship with themselves, their ability to function, to be gainfully employed, mend broken relationships and restore their faith. That’s a success story! The Oasis Clothing Bank in North York is a convenient location for donating clothes and items to those in need. Some customers have expressed confusion about the entrance, with the main door being locked and a donation shed located to the side. Signage at the main door would help prevent confusion. One customer mentioned preferring the Oasis Clothing Bank over Value Village. Overall, the organization is appreciated for its charitable work.
