Berea Baptist Church held its first service in May, 1950. Deacons from Olivet Baptist in New Westminster saw a need for a church in Surrey, due to the growing population in the area, and some property in Newton was donated by a local senator. The church, originally located on the corner of 62nd avenue and 136th st, was called Reidville Baptist. In 1978, the church purchased property on 60th and 132nd, and construction began on the current church building. The new name, Berea, comes from the book of Acts: "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." (Acts 17:11)

Of course, the best way to get to know us is to find whatever it takes inside yourself to join us for worship on a Sunday. Of course, if that is just impossible for you, there are other options. Our website has a lot of information, but much of it is presented in a factual way, lacking the full sense of warmth and humour that a living, breathing community exudes. Email contacts are provided so that you can be in touch with one of our ministers or our office to get connected. You can always call between 8:30 and 4:30, when you'll very likely get a human being instead of an answering service. The part that may astonish you is the fact that there are people at Crossroads United Church who are just waiting to get to know you.. who are preparing to pray for you.. who are getting ready to welcome your children.. who are hoping that the very spiritual gifts God has given to you will be lifted up in our faith community.. We're looking forward to knowing you.. and may Christ's peace be with you.
Customers describe The United Church of Canada Crossroads as a warm and welcoming place with friendly people. The meditation class is praised for its uplifting messages and the music from Dr Bruce Harding. The church is conveniently located for some and provides a space for AA meetings. The community is supportive and caring.
