It originated in 1948 as a home for unmarried mothers and their babies and was known as the Glenbrook Girls Home. The Glenbrook Girls Home continued to provide services until 1965. In this same year the girls home closed and the senior citizens located at the Sunset Lodge on 19 Circular Road were moved to the Glenbrook Lodge for Senior Citizens. In 1974 an extensive expansion was undertaken which would provide accommodations for 143 residents and would include a nursing care unit. This new addition was opened by his Honour, The Lieutenant Governor Gordon A. Winter, and dedicated by Commissioner Arnold Brown on June 24, 1976. In 2000 19 beds located on the second floor of “D” Wing were phased out. At present, Glenbrook Lodge can accommodate 106 residents requiring Level III care. This includes one respite bed. On May 13, 1988, the Glenbrook Villa was officially opened by Commissioner Will Pratt. The Villa is a self contained 20 apartment unit which encourages seniors to maintain their independence and continue active living in the community. Based on our mission, The Salvation Army has provided accommodations, health services, counseling and holistic care on our Glenbrook Lodge site since 1965.
