Fondée en 1977, par l’Association des artisans du Bas-Richelieu, le Salon des métiers d’art Sorel-Tracy n’a jamais cessé d’évoluer. De 1980 jusqu’en 1998, plusieurs étaient d’avis que le salon des métiers d’art Sorel-Tracy n’avait pas la formule adéquate pour attirer les visiteurs. Les artisans étaient présentés sur deux étages dans six salles différentes au Centre Culturel de Sorel-Tracy. Et pourtant, dès ses débuts on comptait une quarantaine d’exposants qui participaient activement aux expositions, année après année. Il est alors suggéré de présenter tous les exposants sur un même plancher. Le comité organisateur de l’époque décide alors d’annuler l’édition de novembre 1998 afin de répondre à cette capacité d’accueil et ainsi prévoir l’évènement dans un autre lieu. Le comité organisateur se lance dès lors à la recherche de locaux potentiels. La salle Jani-Ber devient l’hôte du salon en 1999 et depuis l’entente est renouvelée d’année en année.
