R.M. Grauer Elementary school (1948) was built at its present location on Blundell Road between Railway Avenue and No. 1 Road to service the farming community in Richmond's northwest sector as well as the families of veterans who had returned from the war. The school was named after Rudolph Martin Grauer (1890-1972), who established a general store in 1914 on Sea Island at the junction of the middle and north arms of the Fraser River. The store itself was torn down in 1981 after 67 years of existence. Grauer was Richmond’s Reeve (mayor) from 1930-1949. He served on Richmond’s School Board and was an active member in the Richmond lacrosse organization.

In 2015-2016 James Gilmore School is expecting an enrollment of over 360 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. We are proud to offer concentrated instruction in both of Canada's official languages, English and French (Early French Immersion program). Although children are grouped by the number of years spent at school, we recognize that children learn at different rates and in different ways. We strive to modify learning programs in order to suit the needs of individual students. Our Elementary School Campus is centrally located in a safe residential neighbourhood in the heart of Richmond. We have been at the Woodwards Road location since 1986. Presently, we have over 400 students in Preschool to Grade 5. Our campus is a modern and extensive facility which consists of a library, computer lab, learning centre, music room, large and small gyms, and well-equipped classrooms. It is about a 10-minute drive from our middle and secondary campuses on No. 5 Road. We provide shuttle-bus service to and from our campuses at a nominal fee for your convenience. RCS has caring, Christian teachers who are highly qualified. Our library is a bright, friendly place with over 14, 500 books. Students have access to a computer lab with 30 computers. Our Learning Centre provides resources for teachers and is a place where individual needs are met, whether that be for gifted students or those with special needs.

Diefenbaker Elementary School is a mid-size K-7 school (355 students) situated in a residential neighbourhood in the south-west corner of Richmond.
