Artiste autodidacte native de Québec, Marie Plante a été pédopsychiatre et sa passion pour les arts est présente depuis l'enfance. Les bernaches, oiseaux migrateurs qui s'alimentent à la rive du fleuve St-Laurent, ont été sa première inspiration. Les rives sont riches de vie et l'amènent à peindre les grands oiseaux marins et la végétation. Sa démarche créative l'amène à vouloir exprimer la rive, exprimer la migration plus que de la peindre en figuratif. Ses rives deviennent plus abstraites, suggérées. Ses oiseaux sont esquissés. La végétation est représentée par le dessin en relief des grandes herbes. Sa collection Rives d'eau est sa plus grande et sa plus riche en évolution. Le figuratif et le portrait se rappellent à elle périodiquement et un oiseau sort de la toile, issu d'une photo de voyage ou de celle d'un photographe du Québec qui l'autorise à s'inspirer de ses photos. Outre ses peintures d'oiseau, la spontanéité de création prévaut dans ses oeuvres.
