Review about Dorais Jacques, Saint-Laurent
8 years ago
I wish there were a 0 star rating. Avoid this notary! His address is now 700 St Croix in St Laurent. This is not the only negative review on him. There is another negative review by someone else but was censored by Yelp. I wish I saw that before I hired notary Dorais. Long story short, he accepted my file of condo purchase and passed it on a junior staff of his to handle without informing me, never communicated with me until his office messed up the situation, and sent me a bill with ambiguous "professional services" listed on it. When I was his client, I never heard back from him for close to 3 months, even after calling his office to ask for him almost everyday 2 weeks prior to the proposed closing date. Of course, the closing date passed and there was no sale. After multiple phone calls, he finally talked to me one day after the closing date and tried to explain. He dodged all my questions. Sensing that he did not do his work fully, I told his staff that I would bring my case to another notary. This time notary Dorais finally responded quickly. Within 2 hours I received a bill that listed the costs of what he called "professional services", including "an interview with the notary", which happened one day after the day by which he should finish the job that I hired him to do, and during which he dodged questions on actions that were supposed to be taken. Also the bill had no details on the costs of each of his "services". I asked for those, and never heard back from him. I had no choice but to file a complaint against him at the Chamber of Nortary of Quebec, for breaching the Notary's Code of Conduct on "availability". And I had to pay a premium to another notary to process my document in an urgent manner. He completed it within 3 weeks from scratch. I dealt with Dorais for about 3 months. Enough said.
