Review about Shawnessy Community Centre, Calgary

We rented it for our wedding and upon arriving the place was a complete disaster. Garbage, broken furniture, dirty ant infested rugs, and cigarette butts were EVERYWHERE. The rental manager/bartender was aware we were having an outdoors ceremony on site. My grooms men spent the day landscaping the trees, sweeping grounds, destroying ant hills and discarding garbage. There is a shed on site that stores a number of items, you literally have to pick your way over broken tables, pallets, chairs, to get at the tables you need to set up. Most of the tables inside the facility were broken. The garage door has no handle or rope to pull it down and being a fairly heavy door I wrestled with it and it rushed down shut ON my fingers crushing the bones breaking them and causing me to loose fingernails and spend the day in the Emergency Room. In the wash room covering the floors are a series of holes that presumably were supposed to be covered by grates... they weren't and my marriage commissioner tripped and fell because of one. On to my hardship with the rental manager/bartender.She waited until the day before our wedding to inform us be would not begin serving until 5pm 2 hrs after the original agreed upon time. She said she would be on site and charging us for time as of 3:30 but not working until 5pm. She also she initially refused to serve doubles because it promoted people becoming drunk. We managed to get her to change her mind which would have helped in my opinion of the service we received if only she could have acted professional about. She had an surly attitude the entire evening. Many of my guests commented on the rude service they received from her, as well as she was short changing them and watering down drinks. She also stole from us. We set up a tip jar for her and let our guests know to tip her and we also set up a donation jar for us. We placed both at the bar and she had the nerve to take our donation jar and move it across the room twice. Thus our guests, who thought they were donating to us, tipped her in $20's, $10's and $5's. She kept it all.
