SalvAide is a Canadian not-for-profit organization with charitable status accompanying the people of El Salvador since 1985 as they build social justice, democracy, and economic development. SalvAide supports solidarity with the people of El Salvador through specific program areas. Our work aims to directly accompany the struggle for social justice in El Salvador and to build Canadian awareness about the Salvadoran reality and Canadian government and business policies that impact upon that reality. All the initiatives we support are community driven, deeply democratic, and strive for gender equity. From cooperative cashew farming to helping to build participatory municipal gender equity guidelines, our partners' work is a model for sustainable democratic development in El Salvador, the only option for a future based on fairness and human rights.

The Commission is also mandated to develop and conduct information and discrimination prevention programs. In 2007, the Canadian Human Rights Commission proudly celebrated the 30th anniversary of its founding legislation. The Canadian Human Rights Act inspires a vision for Canada where "all individuals should have an opportunity equal with other individuals to make for themselves the lives that they are able and wish to have", free from discrimination. The Commission works with employers, service providers, individuals, unions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and provincial and territorial human rights bodies to foster understanding and commitment to achieving a society where human rights are respected in everyday practices. The Commission is working within a new service delivery model that provides discrimination prevention initiatives, modern dispute resolution approaches for addressing inquiries and complaints, as well as regulatory, policy, and knowledge development. Enhancing employment equity in federally regulated employment sectors for women, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities is also a key function. Internationally, the Commission’s strong leadership role includes chairing the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, within the United Nations.

Uniquely positioned as the only national non-partisan organization capable of staging events across the country, our mission is to bring our members and guests face-to-face with the most important, relevant and influential leaders of our time. The Economic Club has grown in stature and reputation as the most respected and influential platform of its kind. Each year, more than 100 key policy makers and business leaders seek out The Economic Club of Canada to make major keynote addresses. In past years, our guests have included such high-profile figures as Senator John McCain; Prime Minister Stephen Harper; Victor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine; Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California; the Premiers of Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba; a number of Federal and Provincial Cabinet Ministers, including the Minister of Finance for a post-Budget address; and many others. The coming months will see us continue to host sessions featuring many of Canada’s – and the world’s – leading newsmakers. Our audience members are drawn from the most senior levels of Canadian business, industry and government. Our sessions provide accessibility to our speakers and the opportunity to pose questions, direct and unfiltered. Membership is open to all who share a passion for the great issues of the day, and whose responsibilities require insight and information, experts and exchange.
