English-Language Advocates (ELA) is an organization formed in 2002 to replace the Ottawa and District Branch of Canadians Against Bilingualism Injustice (CABI), formerly known as Alliance for the Preservation of English in Canada (APEC). CABI changed its name again in 2002 to Canadian Network for Language Awareness (CNLA), with a new President, a new direction and a new office in Oakville, Ontario. The President of CNLA was our guest-speaker in April 2002 and at that meeting he advised us that their By-Laws no longer recognize any formal branches and that we should carry on under a new name to deal with language issues that affect Ottawa. He assured us that CNLA would deal with national issues. CNLA has since stopped its operations which is the reason English-Language Advocates was incorporated on October 25, 2004, under the Corporation Act of Ontario and is willing to deal with language issues not just in Ottawa but anywhere in Ontario and Canada.
