Tykes was est. in 1999 by Peggy & Craig Vitek. With over 30 years experience Peggy oversees the operation of Tykes. Located @ 3250 Simcoe St. in the Village of Columbus. (5 min. north of U. I. & Durham College in Oshawa, ON.) Situated on just over an acre of property there are 2 buildings and over 7000 sq. of natural treed playground. All equipment in the playground is CSA approved. Five foot high fences were installed rather than the required 4 feet as an added safety feature. Our classrooms are bright and cheerful with lots of exterior windows for natural light and interior windows separating the classroom, a great way to observe the children playing without disturbing the programming. Our goal is to provide a positive day care experience, it's a big step placing your child in the care of others and we try to make this transition easier for both the child and Parent. Many state that when they come by to view the centre the atmosphere is warm and friendly and that staff are very helpful. Our Supervisor, Isobel Beeken is readily available to answer any of your questions and help with any problems you may have. Our morning and afternoon nursery programs provide a variety of play experiences, which assist each child through their various stages of development (spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional). Our bright rooms are arranged in learning centres to facilitate learning through play. Materials available to the children allow for open-ended play that challenges active minds and bodies. We offer free play as well as group learning. We are pleased to offer small class sizes with a maximum of 12 children per class while maintaining a ratio of eight children to one teacher or lower at all times. We provide a snack that we enjoy together, praying before we eat. We also have a large outdoor play yard that is used in all seasons. A full size gym is also available for various activities and get-togethers or if the weather does not permit us to go outside. Our program allows for flexibility so that individual needs and interests are fulfilled. Our staff is sensitive to your childs needs, supporting his/her various stages of development, and ensuring their health and safety within our centre. Throughout the school year we program our Christian curriculum into the various areas of play. It is incorporated through art and cognitive activities, music and Bible stories. Little Blessings Nursery School strives to provide a high-quality nursery school program in a caring nurturing Christian setting. We believe that it is important to stay current with advancements in the field of early childhood education while listening to the needs of the families in our community. We are licensed by the Ministry of Education and are regularly inspected by the Durham Region Health Department, Fire Department and as well Durham Region Children Services.

Happy Tots Day Nursery, located in Oshawa, is your best local daycare provider in the area. We’re proud to provide a loving, caring environment for children. We have children that come from all over the area, including Whitby and Courtice. Our location is pretty much perfect. We’re located close to schools, parks, bus stops and the GO train station, as well as the exit to the 401. People may think that play comes naturally but it doesn’t. We teach children many skills associated with playing. Through an experiential learning structure, we teach sharing, respect for themselves and others and work toward building cognitive and emotional development, and developing fine muscle and motor control. We’re licensed for fifty-six children, broken down to ten toddlers and forty-six pre-schoolers. We currently have available spots in the toddler group and the pre-schooler group. Happy Tots Day Nursery first opened its doors in May 1971, in Oshawa, Ontario. Five months later, current Administrative Supervisor and Owner, Lydia Francis, came on board. Lydia loves working with, and helping children, as well as watching them progress from toddler to pre-schooler. Since the day care has been in business for over thirty-eight years, they have many children who Lydia and her staff of eight full-time and two part-time workers, have watched grow up. One little girl entered the day care when she was sixteen months. Now she’s eight! Another little boy is seven but began attending Happy Tots Day Nursery at seventeen months! It’s not just current children who are loyal daycare attendees. They actually have children whose parents went there when they were little boys and girls! Lydia admits parents are often amazed that she remembers them.
