The Lions Gate Maternity Clinic (LGMC) opened in 1998 to consolidate the maternity care of Drs. Clark, Harrison, Perry and Purvis who had been doing referral obstetrical (OB) care as part of their family practices for many years. A fifth physician, Dr. Galt joined in 2003. Since then Drs. Perry, Purvis and Clark have retired and the clinic has been joined by Drs. Laurie Lawson, Katayoon Ahkavein and Leanne Rowthorne. Rowthorn herself will be off on maternity leave in 2013 and we will be welcoming a new locum physician into her position. The LGMC provides a centre for families focused solely on prenatal, postnatal and newborn care. Women have the opportunity to meet each of the physicians over the course of their pregnancies and to be familiar with the doctor delivering their baby. LGMC typically has delivered 500 - 600 babies per year at Lions Gate Hospital (LGH), about one third of the total births at LGH. The LGMC is located on the 3rd Floor 231 E 15TH Ave, adjacent to Labour and Delivery in Lions Gate Hospital. Each physician works one day in the clinic and one 24 hour on-call session per week as well as one 72 hour weekend on-call per month. Lions Gate Maternity Clinic receives generally positive feedback from customers for the professional, caring, and supportive staff during pregnancy check-ups and labor. The doctors and nurses are commended for their expertise, attentiveness, and warmth. Patients appreciate the personalized care and the time taken to address their concerns. The labor and delivery team is praised for their professionalism and calming presence during difficult situations.
