The Ensemble Vocal Ganymède, whose members come mainly but not exclusively from the Montréal gay community was created in 1991 by Yvan Sabourin, its current music director. The choir's mission is to present the classical male-voice repertoire; the better to raise awareness of this music and to provide an image of openness and respect. During these 20 years, Ganymède has distinguished itself by participating in numerous cultural events including the parade on St. Jean-Baptiste (1992) and several vigils in memory of those who have died of AIDS. L’Ensemble has featured on the mainstream musical scene by participating in several competitions: the Festival Choral de Montréal (Special Jury Prize, 1994, First Prize in the category “Advanced Choirs” in 1995 and 1997), the National Music Festival (official representatives of Québec on the jury’s recommendation of the Festival Choral de Montréal, 1997), the Festival International du Chant Choral de Trois-Rivières (finalist, 1997; invited choir, 1998) and Podium, 1996 et 2002 editions. In 2006, Ganymède won the gold medal at the Festival of Choirs section of the Outgames in Montréal. In 2007, the Choir flew to France and gave concerts in Paris, Lyon and Vai-Sound-la-Romaine while in 2009, the choir was welcomed by the Maine Gay Men's Chorus in Portland for a joint concert. In the summer of 2010, Ganymède was selected to compete in the International Choral Festival of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where they received the special award for diversity to highlight their efforts in integrating minorities.

This church is a reflection of its name, a place of recharge and communion with God. The shepherd is humble, joyful, and devoted. The community is loving and soul-saving. Words like 'cool' and 'nice' describe the overall atmosphere.

We hope that you will enjoy reading about our church and its activities. Since its inception in 1861, St. John’s has been faithful to the mission set out by our founder, Father Edmund Wood: to uphold the fullness of Catholic faith and worship within the Anglican Communion. We believe in the centrality of Catholic worship and are committed to serving God in ‘the beauty of holiness’ through the perfection of ritual, word, and music. ‘Openness to all’ is a fundamental characteristic of the parish. Such openness brings together people from a broad spectrum of origins, opinions, and life experiences, making the congregation diverse, interesting, and stimulating. John’s is characterized by a strong sense of Catholic tradition: an orthodox and faithful theological and doctrinal outlook, a caring and compassionate attitude on moral and social issues, a full liturgical calendar, a liturgy faithful to the Western Rite, a rich and varied musical offering, and a diverse devotional life. In addition, St. John’s is defined by its location near the city center, universities, shops, offices, and theaters. We are now delighted to find ourselves within the Quartier des Spectacles . Our church is officially partnered with this municipal project, and we are experiencing a revival of our parish as a venue for concerts and cultural events. The construction of many new housing units in our area is also heralding a return of a residential presence to this part of the downtown core. Our congregation is a mixture of people from throughout the Montreal region, and from as far away as upstate New York and Vermont. Our parishioners find at St. John’s the respect they are seeking and the ‘sense of holiness’ that enriches their lives. The parish also attracts people from other denominations seeking a more traditional style of worship, and a greater openness. The present priest is The Rev. Keith Schmidt, who was inducted as the ninth rector of the parish on June 1, 2000.
This church is known for its traditional services with beautiful music and a welcoming community. The clergy is friendly and there have been reports of deeply spiritual experiences. Some visitors appreciate the weekly Solemn High Mass. However, there have been concerns regarding the behavior of the kitchen staff towards certain individuals.
