With more than 5, 000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada, we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada. This helps support programs and research on behalf of the 11 million Canadians living with diabetes and pre-diabetes. But, we're more than just clothing donation collectors. We are an organization of dedicated professionals working with Canadians from coast to coast fighting to End Diabetes through waste diversion. Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million lbs. of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. The YMCA of Okanagan was established over 35 years ago as a cause-driven charity with a mission dedicated to building healthy individuals and communities. The head office, located within the Kelowna Family Y, houses the YMCA of Okanagan's administrative, marketing, fund development, accounting and human resource departments. The charity operates three health and wellness community centres- The Kelowna Family YMCA, Downtown YMCA and H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre; they also run youth employment programs, several child care centres, child and youth programs, kids' camps, mental health programs and a variety of community initiative programs. As a charity, the YMCA is able to financially subsidize ALL their programs for those struggling financially, select programs are even free.
