The Charlotte Town Baptist Church was established in 1836, a result of the tireless efforts of town druggist Thomas DesBrisay who had been recently baptized by Rev. Charles Tupper, an itinerant Baptist missionary. DesBrisay led eight other baptized followers of Jesus to commit to membership. George MacDonald, a Sessions preacher visiting from Nova Scotia, conducted the inauguration. Thomas DesBrisay was inducted as the first deacon. Growth over the years led to several building programs. In 1905, First Baptist hosted the first session of the newly formed Maritime United Baptist Convention. The present church facility located at 235 Prince Street was dedicated on May 17, 1959. Strategically located in downtown Charlottetown, the birthplace of our nation, our church strives to show devotion to our Lord with a five-part vision: Reach, Pray, Teach, Care, Worship. To share the good news of Jesus at home and around the world, we belong to the Prince Edward Island Baptist Association, and are affiliated regionally with the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, nationally with Canadian Baptist Ministries and internationally with the Baptist World Alliance. Whether you live in Charlottetown, are new to the community or plan to visit in the future, we’d love to meet you in person. You are always welcome to worship with us.

As the photo implies, the name of our assembly is "CALVARY." The name refers to the place just outside of Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. The cross on the front of the church building is there to remind us that Christ's sacrificial death on the cross is the center of the Gospel. The Gospel or good news is that we can have peace with God, the forgiveness of sins, the possibility to change and the hope of eternal life through Jesus.
Calvary Church is consistently praised for its wonderful people and awesome worship experience. Many appreciate the great leadership and amazing community. Sermons are often described as spirit filled.
