He had to open a store. So, in 1965, he rented some spaces on Somerset Street, emptied his basement, hung out this shingles and an Ottawa institution was born. Ajax Azzurri Soccer Club aim is to provide a stable organization that will promote and develop the game of Soccer within Ajax, and encourage all participants through the game of soccer, to develop as responsible members of the community. The Ajax Azzurri Soccer Club supports youth soccer activity that is governed by a strong sense of individual and team sportsmanship. Our Codes of Conduct have been prepared as a guide to the principles and expectations of the AASC and is intended to apply to everybody involved in AASC activities regardless of their role or affiliation. Adherence to the spirit as well as the letter of the Code is required. The Ajax Azzurri Soccer Club believes in the principles of fair play, ethical behavior and the right of every individual to fully enjoy the sport of soccer without undue interference from others.

Pickering High is also well known for its great achievements in a low violence rating. The school in recent years has not encountered major violence or injuries to other students. In 2002 there was an incident were a PHS student shot a bullet to the ceiling in the front foyer. No one was ever hurt and the student was expelled. Pickering High students today manage to hold a great level of respect for the community around them and have shown as a great result. Also in February 2009 the school was placed in lock down after a stabbing and ensuing motor vehicle accident at a nearby park. A teen aged female sustained non life threatening wounds, and two teen aged males died as a result of their sustained injuries after being airlifted to hospital. It should be noted, however, that this incident was not related to the school and did not involve any students from Pickering High School.
