In his life, Dinesh (Doug) Arora has been a junior scientist, a pharmaceutical salesman and a prosperous garment manufacturer; but nothing has brought him more pleasure than the title of restauranteur. Founder and owner of the traditional Indian restaurant Ivory, Doug has translated his passion for high-quality cuisine in to one of Winnipeg’s most popular ethnic food destinations. “If you are looking to try a new kind of food you should always try it at the best place so your experience is second to none, ” explains Arora while dining on a freshly made piece of naan bread and bowl of lentils. “When I opened the restaurant 10 years ago I wanted people to try Indian food at the best place. I did a lot of research on different Indian restaurants and I didn’t see any that I thought would fit the modern customer who seeks healthy choices, quality food and professional atmosphere. So...I started from scratch.” What resulted was a bright, contemporary, upscale restaurant and lounge in Winnipeg’s downtown, right across from the Forks, with a menu he designed from scratch. Utilizing his knowledge of quality-cuisine and fine chefs direct from India, Arora developed a traditional menu made with premium ingredients.
