Manitoba Clean Environment Commissions principal role is to provide opportunities for the Manitoba public to play a part in ensuring the protection of our environment. This is done by providing a forum at which the public can participate in environmental assessment and decision-making, and in offering advice and recommendations to the government. As a rule, this is done at the request of the Minister of Conservation who will ask us to review any potential environmental impacts presented by proposed developments. In recent years, these have included the expansion of the Red River Floodway, the Wuskwatim Hydro Generation and Transmission projects and the management of waste water by the City of Winnipeg. Our proceedings work well only when there is active involvement by an engaged public. So, I encourage you to review those sections of our site that describe how the public may become involved. They also tell of the kinds of support available to public participants.
