Our small farm is nestled in a peaceful valley in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. And we are devotees of the “Stinking Rose”, a.k.a. garlic. Cultivated and used since ancient times, garlic is a staple in dishes around the world, has been used as a traditional medicine, and is still the focus of medical research investigating the health-imparting properties of allicin, a compound that gives garlic its pungent aroma and flavour. From humble beginnings – thinking that garlic found in the supermarket was the beginning and end of the story – we have learnt about the great diversity of garlic in both type and taste. Our continuing education has led to awe and respect for the bounty of the earth and delight to our taste buds. Now we specialize in growing seed garlic, many of them heirloom varieties, (a garden plant whose lineage can be traced for a 100 years or more). Our quality garlic is grown over several years to develop our own stock. Far from the madding crowd we use sustainable growing practices to grow high quality garlic. We care for the land by using organic farming methods such as green manure crops, crop rotation and composts. We hope that you’ll try some of our garlic varieties and experience the fun of growing your own. If you’re not into growing garlic, we invite you to simply enjoy the outstanding flavor and health benefits of eating gourmet garlic. Our aim is to walk lightly on the earth, nourish the soil, and share the goodness with you.
