Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping is an independent research centre that promotes safe and sustainable marine shipping in Canada. Clear Seas was established in 2014 after extensive discussions among government, industry, environmental organizations, Indigenous peoples and coastal communities revealed a need for impartial information about the Canadian marine shipping industry. Clear Seas provides impartial information on marine shipping in Canada to policy makers and the public. Our mandate is to initiate and interpret research, analyze policies, identify best practices, share information and facilitate dialogue. Our research focuses on the human, environmental and economic impacts of marine shipping. That includes practices for safe handling of bulk commodities at marine terminals, impacts of oil and liquid natural gas shipping, spill prevention and response, impacts on coastal and Indigenous communities, and much more. We collaborate with Indigenous groups, stakeholders and experts to identify knowledge gaps, share results of existing studies, and facilitate new research to ensure decision makers have access to accurate, up-to-date information.

British Columbia’s competitive advantage rests on social and ecological diversity unparalleled in the world. Our rich rainforests, teeming rivers and bountiful seas, combined with our well-educated workforce and unique blend of Indigenous and global cultures, differentiates us in the world. We are driven by the triple-bottom-line, where economic opportunity improves rather than degrades social and environmental conditions. Some people call it sustainability – we call it the conservation economy. A conservation economy provides meaningful work and good livelihoods, supports vibrant communities and the recognition of Aboriginal rights and title, and conserves and restores the environment. Ecotrust Canada builds the capacity of communities, institutions and businesses to participate in the conservation economy; raises and brokers capital to accelerate the transition to a conservation economy; and connects conservation entrepreneurs to each other, and to the marketplace. We champion the conservation economy. In the conservation economy, returns are about more than the numbers at the bottom of a balance sheet. We gauge business success in terms of the planet, people, and profits—the triple-bottom line. At Ecotrust Canada, we believe that a capital gain needn’t be nature’s loss.

Hillel BC is the largest Jewish student organization in Western Canada and a vital force for Jewish culture, social justice, citizenship, and tikkun olam. Hillel BC promotes Jewish life on campus and beyond, providing a warm welcoming environment for students, as well as non-students, between the ages of 18 to 30. We are committed to enhancing the lives of young Jewish adults by enabling them to explore their Jewish identity and relationship to Israel within a safe, pluralistic and inclusive community. Our programs and events reflect the diverse interests and needs of our members, build valuable leadership skills and help to create lasting friendships. We offer events and connect young Jewish adults for Jewish holidays. In November 1947, Hillel BC officially opened its doors on the University of British Columbia campus. The modest “hut” that opened its doors in 1947 continued to serve Jewish students and their friends at the University of British Columbia until 2008. In 2010, on the precise spot where Hillel had stood for more than 60 years, the magnificent Diamond Foundation Centre for Jewish Campus Life opened its doors. With its’ headquarters operating out of the Diamond Foundation Centre for Jewish Campus Life at the University of British Columbia, Hillel BC serves colleges and universities throughout the province, including Simon Fraser University, the University of Victoria, Langara College, and the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
