The Vancouver Recital Society (VRS) is one of the premier concert presenters in North America, offering a milestone debut series for rising stars and an internationally renowned concert series for the world’s most celebrated performing artists. Started in 1980 by Founder and Artistic Director Leila Getz, the VRS presents twenty concerts a year at the Vancouver Playhouse in downtown Vancouver and at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. Among other legendary artists, Yo-Yo Ma, Kiri Te Kanawa, Jessye Norman, Itzhak Perlman, Evgeny Kissin, Kathleen Battle and Vladimir Ashkenazy have all appeared in recital for the VRS. Notable VRS debuts include Cecilia Bartoli, Maxim Vengerov, Anne Sofie von Otter, András Schiff, Joshua Bell and Bryn Terfel. The VRS has also been a champion of Canadian artists such as Angela Cheng, Scott St. John, James Ehnes and Jon Kimura Parker among others. The Vancouver Recital Society is committed to fostering music education and appreciation in our community by offering concerts by leading world artists free of charge to inner-city and other Vancouver-area schools. The VRS also partners with the St. James Music Academy, the VSO School of Music and the Vancouver Academy of Music to offer lectures, workshops and masterclasses to Vancouver music students by visiting artists.

Celebrating it’s 40th Anniversary in 2013, VNM is dedicated to exploring and contextualizing new music and sonic art, through concert presentations, festival, community, and workshop events. VNM regularly commissions and premieres new works by Canadian composers, presents leading and emerging electroacoustic and electronic music artists, international composers and performers, sound installations and music theatre. VNM presents an annual festival that focuses each year on a theme within the new music landscape, and explores the interaction of contemporary music with other disciplines such as theatre, installation and media arts. Other activities include lectures and workshops with visiting artists, ensemble workshops and presentations open to the community, and other sound art and new music related community events.

Through the exploration of our diverse Canadian cultural identity we offer innovative public programming in exhibitions, performances, artist talks, publications and special projects. Our mandate is to inspire public dialogue by creating an environment conducive to the emergence of innovative, collaborative, and provocative Canadian contemporary art. History Grunt first opened its doors in September of 1984. A group of eight artists had been meeting throughout that summer in a storefront space on East 6th Avenue in Vancouver to discuss the possibilities and practicalities of opening a gallery. Our direction, from the beginning, was based on the desire to support artists who often worked in isolation and to provide them with the resources to exhibit work that might otherwise go unrecognized. Grunt Gallery is highly recommended by its clients for its exceptional staff and teachers. The learning environment is enjoyable and interactive, with a focus on skill development and making friends. The teachers are kind, understanding, and passionate about their work. The gallery features interesting exhibitions and is known for its welcoming management.

Gallery Gachet is a unique artist-run centre located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Gachet is a collectively-run exhibition and studio space built to empower participants as artists, administrators and curators. The organization’s cultural services have grown from the operation of a small, basement studio in downtown Granville South, offering one exhibition a year in 1993, to coordinating approximately 3, 000 square feet of public-access arts space with up to 12 exhibitions each year, in addition to residencies, workshops, artist talks, symposia, special projects and other events. Gallery Gachet is a cozy museum and art gallery in Vancouver, known for its eclectic community and initiatives to benefit those with mental health issues. The gallery features personal art forms and local talent, with friendly staff and regular events such as talks and openings offering fresh fruit and sushi.
