During Clarisse’s final year of high school she knew she wanted to pursue post-secondary education but she felt she had limited options. Bosco wanted to apply directly to university however her marks would not allow her to qualify for the entrance requirements at most Canadian institutions. Our students come from diverse backgrounds. Whether they are new to Canada, simply need to upgrade their grades or need to earn their Dogwood Diploma, each student has a rich history and great hopes for their future.

The British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) serves and supports our members, BC’s Boards of Education, in their key work of improving student achievement. At the local level BCSTA provides professional development, legal counsel and communications. Provincially, our non-profit Association acts as Boards’ strong, unified voice in advocating to government, other education partners, and the public on matters effecting public education. Our members set the directions for advocacy and all other aspects of BCSTA’s work on their behalf. Members do this via resolutions at our annual general meeting in the spring, and at smaller Provincial Council governance meetings over the year.

The Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC is the provincial voice for faculty and staff in BC universities, colleges and institutes, and in private sector institutions. FPSE member locals, represented by President's Council and the Executive, represent over 10, 000 faculty and staff and was formerly the College Institute Educators’ Association of BC. From lobbying governments to assisting member associations with grievance handling and collective bargaining, FPSE works to further the interests of post-secondary educators. FPSE Structure FPSE is a federation of faculty associations formed in 1980 to provide educators at British Columbia post-secondary institutions with a provincial voice. FPSE operates at the local and provincial levels. Local faculty associations, called member locals, are certified trade unions who have chosen to become part of the provincial federation. Each year, FPSE holds an Annual General Meeting where delegates elected by member locals participate in workshops and approve policy, priorities and a budget to guide the work of the organization over the coming year. The activities of FPSE are governmed by policy and procedures developed at AGMs. FPSE is funded through membership dues and has an annual budget of $4 million in 2013-14. Individual FPSE members pay 0.9% of their salary in dues to FPSE. The FPSE budget, which is approved at each Annual General Meeting, reflects the priorities of members. Service to member locals, in the form of staff, advocacy, legal services and the Defence Fund, is a high priority. The Strike/Lockout Defence Fund stands at approximately $9.15 million (March 2014).
