In the summer of 2009, Bonchaz was a just little stall at the vibrant local Vancouver Farmers Markets. We sold a single product, the Bonchaz bun. You may know it as our signature product, the Original Bonchaz; a sweet-dough bun with a butter & sugar filling, topped with a thin crust of cookie dough. Or maybe you know it as the eccentric hybrid of the Mexican concha and the French brioche bun. To the founder Michael Lui, however, it is more than a bun. The Bonchaz represents a dream to reinvent the familiar, and to test the boundaries of traditional bakery & cafe culture. Bonchaz Bakery Cafe's first store opened in 2010 at the edge of Gastown. In the continuing journey to change up cafe culture, the Bonchaz bun can now be found in multiple flavours and our menu is purposely ever evolving. Our Roots The Waves Coffee House franchise was founded in 2005 at Hastings and Richards Street in downtown Vancouver British Columbia. Ever since then, we’ve been known for our superb fresh brewed coffee, warm hospitality and incomparable service. In 2008, we were recognized by the Brand Coaches as the "Hottest Brand in Canada". We have also been recognized as the "Best of Brands" by over 1, 500 coffee retailers. Today there are 31 Waves across British Columbia and Alberta - with more to come. What Sets Us Apart At Waves, we use the very finest coffee beans available. Specifically, 100% Specialty Grade, purchased directly from small lot farmers. Eventually some of these beans make a sweet reunion with real Belgian chocolate (not powdered). As a result our mochas have become an institution of their own!
