Inspired by the Eastern concept of Advaita (a Sanskrit word meaning non-duality), and Western philosophical principles, the School of Philosophy is dedicated to helping individuals understand the world in which we live as they seek answers to big questions such as “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” “What is a worthwhile life?” and “What is truth?” As the School draws on the wisdom of such ancients as Hermes, Socrates, Sri Shantanand Saraswati, and many more, students gain confidence in the intelligence that is inherent in the present moment and the unlimited potential that is available to every human being. Writings and sayings of Plato, Ficino, Shakespeare, Emerson and other orators, set the stage for enlivened discussions based on personal experience as students awaken to conscious living in today’s society.

At Don Valley Academy, we provide our students with a safe and nurturing learning environment that fosters positive and respectful behaviour. Our positive environment is based on: - A one-on-one or small-class setting where learning is a coordinated effort between students and faculty. - Our commitment to building positive student-teacher relationships that extend beyond the classroom - Ongoing guidance to help students plan, work towards, and evaluate their short- and long-term goals. Don Valley Academy teachers enjoy the small-class or individual teaching environment, because it allows them to explore new methods of teaching and new ways to learn. Every class is different, and we collaborate with our students to find the teaching or learning approach that works best for each student. Don Valley Academy students appreciate the ongoing personal relationships they have with their teachers and with the principal, allowing them to get advice or support whenever they need.
