The term landscape architect was first used in 1860 to describe the professional landscape design activities of Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York City’s Central Park. Olmsted, considered North America’s most influential landscape architect, also designed Mount Royal Park in Montreal. Frederick Todd, one of the earliest practitioners of Landscape Architecture in Canada, had worked in the Olmsted office. In the early 1900s, Todd developed many of the original concepts for the now-familiar settings of Ottawa and the National Capital Region. He popularized naturalistic landscape designs and the idea of a “necklace of parks” as linked open spaces – a concept still used today.

Mercer Union is a professional artist run centre, known for its valuable single exhibit room in Toronto's arts scene. One visitor was particularly impressed by the exhibit of Lydia Ourahmane’s film Tassili, which transported them on an otherworldly journey through Algeria. The gallery is housed in a beautiful old brick building with a clean, spacious all-gendered washroom. While the experience may not be as extensive as a larger museum, Mercer Union offers unique and memorable art encounters.

Jarvis Street Baptist Church exists by divine favour for the specific objectives of exalting God in worship, witnessing to His saving grace, caring for the needs of those in our community and farther afield as the Lord enables, and mutually encouraging one another in Christian fellowship. We delight in the sixty-six books which compose Scripture as God’s inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word to mankind. As such, it possesses the supreme and final authority to define both belief and behaviour. God’s Word represents our “meat and drink” and its faithful exposition occupies an integral role in sincere, reverential, and joyful worship. Similarly, JSBC subscribes to the “five solas” which evangelical Christians have cherished throughout the centuries: Sola Gratia (grace alone); Sola Christo (Christ alone); Sola Fide (faith alone); Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone); and Soli Deo Gloria (to God alone be glory). The Statement of Faith provides an additional outline of the Church’s understanding of the essential truths of Scripture. Regardless of your age, background, or socio-economic status, JSBC welcomes you. If you do not yet enjoy a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, we would deem it a privilege to share with you the exhilarating Gospel message of salvation.00 am or 6:30 pm.
Jarvis Street Baptist Church is a welcoming and historic place of worship where customers find a connection to God through faith in Jesus Christ and reverent services. Pastors are highly regarded for their teaching of the Word of God and authentic community. Some customers have found a renewed sense of belonging and faith, despite encountering occasional challenges with other members. The church's architecture and carpentry are also noteworthy.
