Westwood Creative Artists is Canada’s largest literary agency. It’s also one of the oldest and most respected. Situated in a Victorian house in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood, our staff of eleven includes seven full-time book agents who are supported by an in-house foreign rights agent and an outstanding network of twenty-four international co-agents. We take great pride in the enthusiastic response to our list from publishers around the world, and in the wide praise our writers receive from Canadian and international critics. We are honoured that many of the writers we represent have won and been shortlisted for such esteemed national and international prizes as the Man Booker Prize, the Nobel Prize, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Commonwealth Writers Prize, the Charles Taylor Prize, the Governor General’s Award, the Orange Award for New Writers, the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Writers’ Trust Notable Author Award, and the Griffin Poetry Prize. Many of our clients are members of the Order of Canada. We sell rights directly to publishers in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and India, and work collaboratively with our co-agents for the rest of the world. To maintain our extensive contacts and champion our clients most effectively, we regularly travel to New York, and attend the Frankfurt and London bookfairs. We also act as Canadian agents for a select group of British and American writers. WCA represents literary fiction, quality commercial fiction including mysteries and thrillers, non-fiction in the areas of memoir, history, biography, science, journalism and current events; and a limited range of practical non-fiction. We take on children’s and young adult writers very selectively. The agents bring their diverse interests to their client lists, but are generally looking for authors with a mastery of language, a passionate, expert or original perspective on their subject, and a gift for storytelling.
