The Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre (MERC) is an independent environmental research centre whose services were created to support environmental stewardship over the wilderness or “Pakwataskamik” as the Omushkego people say. MERC’s staff, associates and strategic partners have the technical skills, experience, knowledge and tools to develop and implement programs and projects, and to gather and report on the critical information and data required, for environmental decision-making and support in ongoing stewardship of the land. This includes but is not limited to environmental research, monitoring and assessments, independent third party peer reviews, program support services and development of strategies including long term waste management strategies for remote communities in Ontario.
