In 1959 Manuel Fernandes opened a custom Tailor shop in Lisbon, Portugal. After 11 successful years, in 1970 Manuel Fernandes moved to Canada with his wife Cristina and their young daughter to start a new life in a new land. Working side by side with his loving wife Cristina & both knowing very little English, they opened the first specialty store in the Guildford Town Centre 30 years ago. Today Manuel Fernandes proudly has his store in his own building across from the same Centre he started from. After decades creating men’s clothing from pencil sketch to finished product, Manuel Fernandes has developed an eye for detail that ultimately comes from such experience. Service, high quality product & fair value are the top priorities at Manuel Fernandes Fine Men’s Apparel. Our commitment to developing strong ties in the community and forging long term relationships with clients & their families has been the cornerstone of our success. Staff that have been at the store since the beginning & have now retired, the Store Manager, Russell Jacober who has been with the company for 24 years, and has over 35 years experience in higher end Men’s Wear, all have the same response when asked why the long term employment is so common at Manuel Fernandes. It’s all about caring and family! It is with heavy hearts that we pass on the news of Cristina’s sudden passing on June 26, 2014. She was an incredibly kind and caring person, and we will all miss her dearly.
