L’Arche has become one of the most innovative social movements in the world, with over 130 communities in over thirty countries. Many people have heard of Jean Vanier, son of Canada’s former Governor General Georges Vanier. Jean Vanier founded the original L’Arche community in France in 1964. Living in the small French village of Trosly-Breuil, Jean invited two men with intellectual disabilities from a local institution to create a home with him. He called this home L’Arche, meaning “The Ark.” Jean Vanier, a Canadian, is one of the foremost visionaries of our time in advocating for people with intellectual disabilities. L'Arche Stratford is one of 29 L'Arche communities in Canada, and has the distinction of being one of the oldest in North America. It was founded in 1973 and celebrates 40 years of service in 2013. 
L'Arche is an amazing organization with caring staff and a positive work environment. The love and care provided are exceptional.
