A Brief History Golden Mile Plaza is a 189, 923 sq ft fully enclosed Shopping Centre conveniently located at the North East corner of Victoria Park and Eglinton Avenue East. Over the course of several decades, The Golden Mile has seen several industrial and commercial developments that have made it rich with historical relevance. During the Post War decade, the Scarborough Council purchased the 250 acres of land that fell along Eglinton Avenue, between Birchmount Road & Victoria Park Avenue. Developed then were municipal offices & libraries along Eglinton Avenue, with the remaining land being sold to private industries to develop the area as “The Golden Mile”, which was fashioned after the Golden Mile in London, England. Until the 1960s several private factories operated in the area to produce consumer goods. During mid 1950s the Golden Mile Plaza was developed just West of the industrial section of the mile, and was visited in 1959 by Queen Elizabeth II, which marked an important part of the community’s rich history. Today, the Golden Mile Plaza is home to over 18 retailers, with a wide array of goods & services, and welcomes several temporary retailers under its roof throughout the year.
