Bendangla Subong’s clients are busy professionals and women who want a classic silhouette with a custom fit. Bendangla’s tailoring enables women to enjoy timeless clothing that enhances their individual shape. Clients come to depend on Benn to help them create wardrobes that get noticed. Bendangla graduated from Ryerson University and the National School of Dress Design. She is a member of Fashion Group International, which gives her access to global fashion trends affecting the garment, footwear, beauty and hair industries. Benn’s global travels give her a keen eye for market trends in fashion. Before starting her own business, Benn worked for a number of other design houses, gaining experience in production and manufacturing of women’s and men’s sportswear. She freelanced for clothing manufacturers, designing and patternmaking. Benn started to learn how to sew when she was about six years old, sewing for her dolls and later for friends. She sewed a wedding dress for one of her sister’s friends when she was in grade nine. From an early age, Benn wanted to become a designer. She was able to realize that dream, by studying at one of Canada’s best design schools, graduating from Ryerson in 1980. In her first year, Benn had already begun making custom bridal fashions. In 1997 Benn opened a boutique, Subong Studio, in the Beach neighbourhood of Toronto. The store ran for ten years, gaining a clientele of over a thousand happy customers. In 2007, Benn closed the store to concentrate on custom tailoring and custom interior design for the home. Her Chez Vous service offers in-home or in-office service for clients who are too busy to make it into her studio.
