The first seeds of this park were planted in the early 1960's with the foreside of local newspaper columnist Fred Schutz. When the first church ever built in Rimbey became too small for its growing congregation and the building was slated to be demolished or sold to the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. Fred lobbied hard to keep this piece of history in Rimbey. So in 1963 he became the first president of the Rimbey Historical Society. In 1965 the Society obtained land for the park site and moved the historic “vertical log church” onto the property as the nucleus of the museum. Lieutenant-Governor Grant MacEwan officially opened the Historic PasKaPoo Park in a ceremony held in 1967.
