The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) spans both municipal and rural boundaries to deliver services to wide areas with common needs. The services offered by the regional district are varied, and include services like fire protection, recreation, library, waste management and utility systems. The CRD is a regional government that functions independently of the provincial government. It was incorporated in 1968. The CRD consists of 12 electoral areas and four incorporated member municipalities, including Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, and Wells. The Cariboo Regional District presently serves an estimated population of just over 60, 000 residents, based on the 2011 population census.
