The Helpdesk adaptation of immigrants (IAS) is the result of a project initiated in 1988 by Sister Marie-Hélène Blais, religious missionary of Our Lady of Africa, accompanied by his team of volunteers . At the time, no support is offered to newcomers to facilitate their integration in the host community. At 95% refugees of war, they are isolated when installed in apartments. They must draw a line under their past and perform mourning what they have left behind: family, social network, work, property or past living conditions in most of mourning for all they not found in the host community. Injuries due to war and uprooting must be exceeded. Learning the language of Quebec culture or resources they can use to be achieved.
