The Polish School in Ottawa, named after Wiktor Podoski, the last RP consul in Ottawa, is currently the only existing Polish school in our city. It was founded 1954, and a turning point in its history was the year 1977-1978, when it was incorporated into the Roman Catholic Ottawa Separate School Board - Heritage Language Program (since 1994 - International Languages Program) - funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education. For over 60 years (1954-2014) we are trying to teach the young generation of Poles both beautiful mother tongue, as well as cultivating Polish traditions and culture. We want to give our students a greater knowledge and understanding of the world and provide them with the experience of native heritage. Our program is based on the Polish Teachers' Union of Canada curriculum, which includes elements of Polish history and geography. We also provide special activities for parents with children under 4 years of age and Polish language classes for adults. All classes are held on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Altogether, our school has currently 13 teachers who provide an excellent learning environment for more than 200 children.
