The Katharine Robinson School of Highland Dancing began over 40 years ago in the Robinson family home with 10 students. Today, it is a strong and vibrant school with more than 75 students ranging in age from 4 to 54. The school offers classes for recreation, annual examinations, performances and competitions at local, regional, and international levels. Katharine's dancers have competed throughout Canada and internationally in Scotland and the United States. The following are just some highlights of the school's performances: 150th anniversary of the Ottawa Regional Police Military Tattoo; Annual CHEO Teddy Bears Picnic; National Arts Centre's Young People's Concert with conductor Boris Brott; 100th anniversary of Belfast City Hall, Edinburgh Castle-City Hall, Stirling, Robbie Burns’ Home, Loch Lomond, Perth, Culloden Battlefield; Music and Beyond's Music in the Countryside Festival at Saunders Farm; Act as honour guard and perform for weddings, retirement homes and other venues; Rideau Club Robbie Burns Dinner. The school is involved in Community Service through shows and fundraising for many well-known charities. Katharine encourages her dancers to become active members of various associations and teams, and to participate in a wide range of concerts and competitions. Her goal is to nurture her dancers’ self-confidence and help them to take pride in their accomplishments. Katharine Robinson, is a Life Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B. T.) and a Member of the Judges Panel of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (S. B. D.) Classes are offered for both recreation and competition. The school prepares dancers for the annual examinations, and for local, regional and international dancing competitions and demonstrations. Training for professional examinations is also part of the curriculum.
