The Nanaimo Museum is a dynamic community facility offering diverse interpretive programming encouraging visitors to "Make a Discovery" while exploring the history and heritage of our area. The museum entered a new era in 2008. Nanaimo's history was given new life with the construction of our facility in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, created with the vision statement: The Nanaimo Museum will enhance cultural quality of life, anchor our community and enlighten visitors while nurturing the flow of inspiration through interactive presentation of stories and objects spanning Nanaimo's history. 
The Nanaimo Museum is a small yet informative establishment, offering a glimpse into the history and culture of Nanaimo. Visitors appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable staff, interactive exhibits, and reasonable admission (donation-based). The museum caters to all ages with scavenger hunts and various sections dedicated to local history, indigenous people, and the coal mining industry. For more than a quarter century, the museum has assembled a truly impressive collection of military memorabilia and artifacts from the War of 1812 right through to Canada's involvement in Afghanistan. Examine life on the home front and the important work of the Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, the Salvation Army, RCMP and the critical role played by the Merchant Navy in war time. Follow the evolution of Women in the Armed Forces, from Nursing Sisters during the Boer War to present day operations in all branches of our Armed Forces. The museum is located in downtown Nanaimo’s dynamic waterfront; close to the Port Theatre, the Inner Harbour Boat Basin, Cruise Ship Facility, the Nanaimo Conference Centre, Tourism Office and many Major Hotels. Visitors express admiration for the museum's engaging tour guides and vast collection of military memorabilia, dating back over two centuries. Most spent less than two hours exploring, but felt they could have spent more time due to the abundance of information and displays. Entrance fee is $4 per adult.
