St. Paul's Anglican Church is a beautiful place with a welcoming pastor. Some customers appreciate the foodshare classes and the church's community outreach, specifically the 7-10 club for the homeless. However, some have had negative experiences with certain staff. Overall, the church is a great place to visit on Sundays.

Literacy Central was incorporated as the Nanaimo Literacy Association in 1990. We have grown both in catchment area and programs, now offering free tutoring services for a large portion of the central east coast of Vancouver Island. Literacy Central VI, Vancouver Island University and the Advanced Education Ministry of the BC Government partner in providing 3 programs; Adult Literacy Tutoring, Aboriginal Literacy Tutoring, and Family Literacy. We also partner with the BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Development and Vancouver Island University to provide English as a Second Language Settlement Assistance Program tutoring and English Practice Groups. Other programming is featured on our home page. The strength of our organization is the over 200 highly knowledgeable and dedicated people that volunteer in our programs and bookstores including our Board of Directors. This non-profit organization, Literacy Central Vancouver Island in Nanaimo, is highly regarded by its customers for its extensive collection of well-organized and diverse books. The store offers excellent value with reasonable prices and a vast selection, especially in the vintage and poetry sections. Many are impressed by the welcoming and helpful staff. Some customers have noted occasional miscategorized books as a minor inconvenience. The store's open hours seven days a week allow for ample browsing opportunities.
