Chantiers jeunesse is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1980. It aims to promote the development of young active citizens committed to supporting the development of communities and the full potential of people, by providing learning opportunities and training in collaboration with local and foreign partners, all in a spirit of solidarity and respect for differences. We organize various volunteer projects for young people aged between the ages of 15 and 30, in different regions of Quebec. In return we send young Canadians to over 30 countries around the world as volunteers. This is all possible, thanks to our collaboration with over 40 international organizations that are also part of the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations.Chantiers jeunesse contributes to the construction of an open society in a united world. With a passion for diversity and pluralism, Chantiers jeunesse concerns itself with the development of the full potential of the individuals and communities it works with. This project is part of an international movement, which emphasizes on volunteerism and the development of local communities, all while gathering international youth around a common cause, combining work and fun.The concept of “chantiers” or workcamps, has now existed for over 80 years. Created in France in 1920 after the First World War, the workcamps aimed at the reconstruction of villages that had been destroyed or damaged. They also sought to demonstrate that international cooperation was still possible and could help restore world peace. Over the years, workcamps have also become educational experiences, through which the participants can develop their personal and social understanding.
