Anshin School of Karate is dedicated to the promotion of Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu karate in Canada as handed down by the late Soke Takayoshi Nagamine, and Ryu-Kyu Kobudo Hozon Shin Ko Kai under Sensei Yoshiko Dometrich. Anshin School of Karate is one of only 5 schools in Canada to be a member of Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu karate under Master Nagamine Takayoshi. The chief instructor at Anshin Karate is Sensei Steve Trombley who is dedicated to carefully passing the knowledge of both karate and kobudo to his students. Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu karate is an Okinawan martial art with a long history and tradition. Founded by Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine, the federation is currently headed by his son, Master Takayoshi Nagamine. Sensei Steve Trombley is an integral part of the tradition of Matsubayashi-Ryu style Karate. He has been instrumental in hosting many seminars in Canada, hosting Master Takayoski Nagamine as well as teaching extensively in the Homebu Dojo in Japan. He has done clinics around the world including in the United States, Canada, Germany and Ireland.

Training is based on certain fundamental principles, which take into account the limitation and capability of human movements, the relative position between the practitioner and the opponent, and the most economic movement to achieve the desired result under any situation. The training is strict and requires a high level of concentration, conceptual understanding and discipline. Classes are open to all levels from beginner to advanced and practitioners are encouraged to develop their skills through paired training and controlled application. In 1996 as tribute to the now late Grand Master Moy Yat, the spelling of Ving Tsun as opposed to the more traditional “Wing Chun” was incorporated by our schools as recognition to the lineage of our Kung Fu Family. (Recommended for practitioners 14 yrs and over) Wushu = Martial Arts Exhilarating in nature and colorful in tradition, Wushu is one of the most visually appealing sports today. Made popular by action films such as ‘Hero’ and ‘Crouching Tiger – Hidden Dragon’, Wushu is an Olympic level sport practiced by the likes of action stars Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Wushu routine (taolu) training comprises of traditional martial arts movements such as punches, kicks, sweeps and blocks. In addition, the routines incorporate the elements of jumps, turns, spins and acrobatics in the most difficult and dramatic fashion.
