At the age of 17, Lei began her university studies in medicine in China. After graduation she commenced her career as medical doctor in a provincial general hospital in China. While practicing at the hospital, Lei encountered a patient who underwent surgery to remove a cancerous liver tumor. The surgeon determined the tumor was too large to remove and advised that the patient had only 3-6 months to live. The patient then went to see a doctor in traditional Chinese medicine that was able to eliminate the tumor following a treatment program using Chinese herbs.
