Larry and Jerry Schaffer bought the old Esso station from their father in 1979. Larry bought Jerry out in 1989. Larry and Dorothy operated the Esso until the new site opened in 2001. The name "EMME" was chosen from the first initial of each of Dorothy‘s and Larry‘s children. The grand opening was in the Fall of 2001, over 500 people attended and BBQ beef on a bun was sold with the proceeds given to the Emergency Services in Bassano. Emme‘s has expanded their original employee base of 12 in 2001 to 27 employees in 2004. New features have been added since the opening of Emme‘s in 2001 which includes propane and diesel cardlock. Emme‘s purchased land in 2003 and has built a new building, which they are renting to M&M Auto Centre. Future plans are to expand the convenience store and put in rear fill pop coolers. Emme‘s Esso is also proud to support Bassano Sports programs, STARS, Bassano Emergency Services and various other non-profit organizations.
