The Kaslo Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1896. The original firehall, now the VHKAS Thrift Store, was in use from 1951 until 1971, when the current fire hall besides the City Hall was built. A new emergency services centre to house the KVFD and Kaslo Search & Rescue (KSAR) is currently under construction with completion scheduled for Summer 2014.
