A native of Ottawa, Virginia pursued the study of the classical flute at conservatories in Quebec (with Gail Grimstead-Michaud) and Paris (with Raymond Guiot), piccolo (with Jean-Louis Beaumadier) and chamber music (with Claude Desurmont). After graduation, she moved to Germany, where she enjoyed a career as a orchestral and chamber musician. She has held teaching positions in several German state and private music schools as well as being the flute and recorder instructor at the state teacher’s college. Since returning to Canada in 1994, Virginia has built a thriving private studio in Kanata Lakes. Her creative, personalised and effective teaching style has enriched the lives of many students, some of whom have gone on to become professional performers and teachers.
