Unifor was formed on Labour Day, 2013. Unifor is the amalgamation of the former CEP and CAW unions. At the founding convention of Unifor, we all expressed the desire for a new kind of union – one that reached out beyond its members to the unorganized, communities, seniors, and the unemployed. We also stated that we wanted a union that conducted its business “differently” than traditional union structures – INCLUSIVE, DEMOCRATIC, and RESPECTFUL OF DIVERSITY. We are now the largest private sector union in Canada. We represent a wide variety of industries and services across the country, helping members and communities from coast to coast on all issues related to the working people of this country.
