En lisant le rapport du curé à l’Évêché pour 1948, on apprend que la paroisse compte alors 4 684 âmes réparties en 684 familles. La population est très homogène, catholique et canadienne-française. On ne trouve dans la paroisse que 14 canadiens anglais et 10 personnes d’une autre origine ethnique; tous sont catholiques. On compte 310 familles d’employés, 110 familles de cultivateurs, 100 familles d’artisans et 3 familles de professionnels. Le statu socio-économique des 165 autres familles n’est pas précisé. En somme, au début de 1948, on retrouve à l’ouest de la rivière aux Sables une paroisse bien organisée, regroupant une population d’employés d’usine et de cultivateurs qui ont bâti une communauté vivante autour de leur pasteur, le curé Joseph Bouchard. Celui-ci quitte la paroisse le 24 août 1947 pour Saint-Alphonse de Bagotville où il sera curé jusqu’en 1962.
